ACTING:
Actors and the environment - techniques to think like an actor in diverse spaces
Learning objectives: Introduction to acting techniques in relation to space, ways of character construction in different stage configurations.
Methodology: demonstration, peer instruction, explaining, and debriefing.
Tools: body awareness, ensemble work, actor's thinking tools, viewpoints, games, practical exercises with partners in the following stagings: alley, proscenium, outdoors, arena and thrust.
Scene study - tools to find your way in almost any style
Learning objectives: acquire tools for scene study from an actor’s perspective in different styles of plays. Intro to text analysis, historical research, genre methodologies and diverse cultural styles.
Methodology: lecturing, discussion, practice.
Tools: scene study, research skills development, practice with materials from: non-linear, non-western, poetic, contemporary Canadian, classic British, classic American and Latin American plays.
Actor's autonomy - collaborating and leading in a creation process
Learning objectives: develop an introductory understanding of the skills needed from dramaturgs, adaptors, designers and directors.
Methodology: collaborating, peer instruction, and practical exercises.
Tools: the class will adapt and present works in ensembles, duos/trios, and monologues and will be responsible for every aspect of it, expanding their perspective beyond acting and at the same time understanding where acting fits with all of it.
ARTS MANAGEMENT
Career Management - strategies and hidden rules to be a working artist.
Learning objectives: develop and practice tools and strategies to be a worker in the arts sector. Identify unwritten rules of engagement and practice them.
Methodology: lecture, explaining, and debriefing.
