Caravan of Illusion
In a mythical place at a unexplained time a family of travelling artists mourn the passing of their elder. They have been moving through the world in their caravan for as long as their oldest ancestor has been. The mourning, however, opens space for one of them to question if there is something more to life, and if not more, at least different when they face a literal cross road on the path to the new city. Doubt affects the world around them bringing a storm that carries a travelling guest, who feeds hidden desires to see the world, and be seen by it. The caravan is split, their duty questioned. Are we doomed to travel city to city sharing our dance, our singing, our pantomime? Does the world need us doing that? Should we leave the caravan behind? This production saw graduating students engaging directly with the eternal question : what is the value of art? Caravan of Illusion is a highly poetic piece written during Brazil's Dictatorship times, around the AI-5 law that completed the censorhip acts that made many Brazilians artists exiles for survival and the pieceis at once a warning for audiences and a balm to artists giving us the chance to dream and hope.
